Nordic Thingy:91 wins prestigious China Electronic Market Editor's Choice Award

CEM Awards

The multi-sensor cellular IoT prototyping platform was recognized in the ‘Most Competitive Development Tools in China’ category

Nordic Semiconductor today announces that its ‘Nordic Thingy:91 cellular IoT prototyping platform’ has been named winner of the “Most Competitive Development Tools in China” category by the judges of the 2019 China Electronic Market (CEM) Editor’s Choice Awards. It is the fourth time Nordic has claimed the prized award, last year winning with its ‘nRF Connect for Cloud’ development tool.

The highly-regarded awards program is jointly organized by leading electronics industry magazine, CEM, and China Electronic Exhibition & Information Communication Company, and recognizes the excellent performance of technically advanced products that meet the needs of the Chinese electronics market. A panel of CEM editors and industry experts adjudged Nordic Thingy:91 as the winner in the development tools category based on the key criteria of brand influence, market share, technological innovation, and product services.
China is an incredibly important market for Nordic and for wireless IoT design as a whole

Based on Nordic’s nRF9160 low power System-in-Package (SiP) with integrated LTE-M/NB-IoT modem and GPS, the battery-powered Nordic Thingy:91 is a rapid prototyping platform for cellular Internet of Things (IoT) applications. It comes with a roaming SIM card, 16 sensors, and an asset tracking application for ‘straight-out-of-the-box’ operation. It also features Nordic’s nRF52840 System-on-Chip (SoC) for a full range of complementary short-range wireless technologies. It is designed to be programmed using Nordic’s ‘nRF Connect SDK’ with integrated Zephyr RTOS.

“China is an incredibly important market for Nordic and for wireless IoT design as a whole,” says Bjørn Åge “Bob” Brandal, Nordic Semiconductor, Director of Sales & Marketing – APAC. “That’s why we’re absolutely delighted to once again win this award, and for the Nordic Thingy:91 to receive such recognition from the electronics design community.

“We are discovering new customers every day in China, and we look forward to working with professional developers and non-cellular IoT specialists alike—both large and small—to turn their proof-of-concept designs into successful, commercialized solutions.”

Recognized as the world’s leading Bluetooth® Low Energy (Bluetooth LE) semiconductor chip company, Nordic Semiconductor has today evolved into a wireless IoT company able to ‘connect anything’ via ultra-low power, short-range wireless technologies such as Bluetooth LE; or low-power, long-range wireless technologies such as the latest IoT-targeted version of cellular wireless technology, LTE-M and NB-IoT.
