Nordic’s ultra low power wireless heritage started with wireless keyboards, mice, and USB dongles – ‘Human Interface Devices’ or ‘HIDs’. And this market-leading heritage continues to this day.

Nobody is more expert, or more capable, at enabling you to build uniquely high-performing HIDs than Nordic, whether running Bluetooth or proprietary 2.4GHz wireless protocols. Application examples also include wireless presenters and pointers, and stylus pens for tablets.

Nordic Bluetooth LE wireless technology can be seamlessly combined with proprietary protocols concurrently for any kind of HID. This includes single mode HIDs (Bluetooth LE only or dongle only), dual mode HIDs (Bluetooth LE plus a dongle), and triple mode HIDs (Bluetooth LE, dongle, plus USB Full or High Speed).

Modular reference designs

Nordic’s nRF Desktop reference design is the starting point for any HID. It provides a complete and fully flexible, modular hardware and software reference design. Currently supporting nRF52 SoCs, the software is also pre-optimized for Nordic’s latest nRF54L and nRF54H Series too.

The reference design also comes with gaming features and can be used for other applications with little to zero additional coding effort. For example, the software architecture allows new sensors to be added quickly and easily. This makes it simple to generate a HID report from gyros and accelerometers, or stream audio over a proprietary wireless protocol.
