Nordic Semiconductor and its customer iBASIS named ‘IoT Partnership of the Year’ at IoT World 2020

The award recognizes how the two companies have made global IoT connectivity “ultra-out-of-the-box-easy” using a combination of Nordic’s nRF9160 cellular IoT System-in-Package (SiP) and iBASIS Open eSIM technology
Nordic Semiconductor today announces that along with its customer iBASIS, a leading provider of communications solutions for operators and digital players worldwide, the two companies have been named ‘IoT Partnership of the Year’ at IoT World 2020.
In September last year and in less than a year, the partnership culminated in the first ever massive field testing across 24 countries, completely invalidating any question marks over cellular IoT and eSIM technology used in NB-IoT and LTE-M Low-Power Wide-Area (LPWA) network use cases that had been circulating at the time.

Test markets included the U.S, France, and Finland for NB-IoT, the U.S, Canada, France, Australia, Japan, South Korea, and more than 18 additional countries for LTE-M.
This meant Nordic customers were (and today remain) able to connect and monitor their LPWA devices globally on iBASIS’ Open eSIM without the logistics of deploying different SIM cards in each country. Nordic and iBASIS’ testing of the iBASIS Global Access for Things™ was the first time a provider confirmed standards-based cellular technologies comprising LTE-M and NB-IoT, plus eSIM, were (and are) ready for massive IoT deployments.
