Product Description
Inadequate physical activity can lead to several diseases like type 2 diabetes, cancer and cardiovascular disease. A lack of sleep affects the immune system and body lose the ability to fight against infection like covid-19 and other harmful germs. Falling can create a serious injury in the elderly population and in United States, around 33% of the elderly fall at least once per year, and these falls result in over 2 million visits to the emergency room. So monitoring all these parameters are very important especially when someone is in isolation. Moreover blood-oxygen levels and temperature can give significant clue about covid-19 infection and other asymptomatic problems. IsoCare, a wearable device can give you important information regarding all the above parameters and alert you automatically if required. You can access all the information using smartphone app or Alexa.
Why entered the competition?
Technology always fascinate me and making new project is my passion. My IsoCare device can help the community and the mass people of the society if I am able to convert it from concept to reality. To bring it in existence I will be required technical and financial support. Connect the Community: Design Challenge is providing those support and providing the required hardware. The prize is also motivating.
Can you briefly outline how your design helps people isolated by Covid-19 ?

Can you explain what motivated you to come up with such a solution and take the time and effort to enter this challenge ?
After the come out of COVID-19 most of the world people are isolated. I am also passing most of my time inside my house. From the study I came to know that isolation is greatly affecting our physical activity and sleep. There is some device available which can keep track of physical movement and sleep. But after the outbreak of COVID-19 regular blood-oxygen levels and temperature measurement had become a new issue. Of course there are some separate device available in the market for monitoring these parameter. But thanks to the new era of electronics and IoT. We can now integrate all these functionality in a single wearable device and can visualize the data from our smartphone.

Can you briefly explain how your solution works both in terms of features and functionality (does it use an app, is it battery powered, what are the key functional blocks) ?
I will build a battery power wearable device which will keep track of physical activity, sleep, blood-oxygen level, temperature and detect free fall. The device will not have any display and save power. User will visualize the data from his smartphone. A smartphone app will be developed and device will send all the data to smartphone using Bluetooth LE. From the smartphone app the data will be uploaded to the cloud and user will also be able to know the information by asking Alexa. The device will also generate alert if any abnormality found and notify the user.
How are the above features enabled technically including any Nordic chips and wireless technologies used, battery life (if applicable), sensors employed etc.?
I will use Nordic nRF5340 SoC with two Arm® Cortex®-M33 processors with integrated long range Bluetooth Low Energy. Battery life is not still calculated but it should run couple of weeks with a single charge. Several highly power efficient and extremely accurate Maxim sensors will be used in the device.
Is this design a brand new concept or an evolution of something you’ve worked on / developed / were developing before ?
It is one of my brand new idea. Even as far as I know currently there is no such device in the market which can measure all these parameter using a single wearable.
Can you give us a brief summary of your background / career and where you would like to take your career in the future if you are a student ?
I completed my B. Sc. and M. Sc. in Electrical & Electronic Engineering. Currently I am working as an Assistant Professor at University of Asia Pacific, Dhaka, Bangladesh. I teach electrical machines and basic electronics to my students. I have more than 10 years of practical experience on embedded system design, IoT and robotics. I am very keen on collecting new knowledge on electronics and IoT technology. I spend most of my free time on learning new thing and making open source projects. I published lots of projects on Hackster.io (hackster.io/taifur) and instructables (instructables.com/member/taifur). I love open source project. In future I want to be an IoT and AI expert.
